Roatán Reef Resort

After the construction of Samal Reef Resort in the Philippines, Arkpad has set the goal of building a new floating resort off the coast of Prospera. What the drawings show

What the drawings show

  • Straight-down aerial of two hexagonal rings of white Glamphouses around blue decks, linked by a walkway to a sandy beach and pier, with two detached ArkPad units below and small boats on turquoise water

    01

    Glamphouses ring a Hexafarm

The basic unit of the plan is a hexagon. Glamphouses sit around the outside of the ring and face outward, and the water they enclose is a Hexafarm - the same polyculture cage running at the Reef Resort off Samal. Each module is accommodation wrapped around a working farm rather than around an empty pool.

  • Straight-down aerial of the proposed Roatan development: a long S-curve of hexagonal modules carrying white Glamphouses, with a separate diagonal row of square ArkPad units below, on deep blue water between two wooded headlands

    02

    A chain, not a building

The Glamphouse modules are linked end to end into a curving chain that follows the shoreline instead of squaring off against it, with ArkPad units moored separately off the chain. Drawn this way the development grows by adding another module to the end, which is a different proposition from a resort that has to be built to its final size on day one.

  • Golden-hour aerial at an angle: white Glamphouses and larger ArkPad units on floating platforms in a linear arrangement, connected by walkways to a green shore, with a boat wake crossing the frame

    03

    Solar over the roofs

Every Glamphouse canopy and every ArkPad roof in the drawings carries a panel array, and the walkways run under the same canopies. The arrays are shown as the primary roof surface rather than as equipment added on top of one.

  • A wide daylight view across blue water to a small cluster of white Glamphouses and ArkPad unit moored off a densely wooded green shoreline, with a tall tower building on the headland and kayakers in the foreground

    04

You walk on from the shore

The chain connects to land by a walkway to a beach and pier, so the whole development is reached on foot. Boats appear throughout the drawings, but nothing in them requires a boat to get home.
